TUTORIAL - MAKE 2 GOWNS - PART 2 - GOWN #1

Part 2 - Gown #1

VIEWS

Check to see how the gown skirt
will look on the manikin.

I decided to use tulle to make the gown
stand out more.
THIS IS OPTIONAL!

If you decide to use the tulle, cut it
to this length and gather it to the
manikin.

I ALSO WANT TO SAY - MAKE SURE
THAT ALL OF THE CLUNY LACE
IS SEWN INTO THE FABRIC AND
THAT THERE IS NOT ANY LOOSE ENDS!!
THEN
At the back of the gown run a gathering stitch
all around the top.
Cut the threads long and knot the ends.

Place the gown on top of the manikin.
At the back draw up the threads without breaking
them and tie in a knot 3 times.
Cut off the threads close to the knots.

Measure with your fingers the top of the
manikin bust to the white cotton fabric -
be sure to add some extra fabric to turn
under at both ends like you see here.

Take this piece and fold it
around the
manikin to see where you
must stitch at.

Fold over to make the
raw edges meet like the picture.
Hand sew or machine sew
closed.

This is the bodice!
Do not cut off the seams!!!

If it is too loose then the bodice will fall down.
If it fits tightly - that is good.
Stuff the excess seams into the manikin.

When you place the bodice on the manikin, make
sure that the bottom edge is also folded under and
sits on the white cotton fabric of the skirt.

Go to the front of the bodice and with a needle
make sure to turn under any folded edge that is
showing on the top and bottom.
Make sure the bodice is even on the shoulders.

Take your doily and place it on top of the
manikin as you see here thru the
middle hole.

This is what it should look like in the front.
Make sure that the doily is straight
and even in the front.

Make sure that the doily is also straight
and even in the back.

TO THREAD THE RIBBON!!!!

With the doily still on the manikin, time to
take your 1/4th inch ribbon thru the holes.

The next steps show you what holes that I
threaded it thru.
Do not knot or cut the ribbon - merely start on a side
and thread thru each hole.
Use the pics as a guide!!

Thread the ribbon under the armpit.

Like so.

A full size view.

Make sure that both armpits are the same.
End the ribbon thru the same hole that you
started in.
DO NOT CUT THE RIBBON!!!!
JUST LET THE RIBBON DANGLE.

TO MAKE THE SLEEVES!!!

Face the manikin like this.
See the open edge of the doily.

PERIODICALLY YOU WILL HAVE TO
PULL ON THE RIBBON TO KEEP IT
TAUT, SO IT DOES NOT LOOSEN
TOO BAD.

Pinch together the edges.

See the left side - at the bottom.
Start at the armpit, hide the knot on the
inside and lightly stitch thru the 2
open ends to close them.

I am merely holding these together to
show you how to form the armhole together.

Hand stitch around the curve.

Even though a doll will not be wearing
this, stitch up and leave enough
space to where my finger is.
Knot your thread on the inside.
BUT DO NOT CUT THE THREAD!!!

Smash the arms together at the back of the
manikin so you can see how you want it
to look.
Mine will something like this.

With your needle still threaded weave the needle
thru the inside of the sleeve and come out at the
front.
Weave the needle all the way to the other side
towards the back,
in order to make the other sleeve.

Gently pull the thread so it brings the threads
of the sleeve closer in towards
the body of the gown.
Give a small knot towards the inside to
anchor that sleeve.
Then without cutting the thread,
repeat to make the other sleeve.

When finished with the sleeve then knot off the
thread making sure that the knot is hidden on
the inside and then cut off the thread.

Now, gather up the ribbon in the back and
be sure to check the front to make sure
that the ribbon is not twisted and is straight,
then knot the ribbon and push it into
the inside so you do not see the knot.

Make you a small bow.
Cut the tails off of it.
Glue or hand stitch to the ribbon close
to the knot.

Now, cut the ribbon to the desired length.
Fix the bow!

ALL FINISHED!!!

Thank you for stopping in!
